Senior Executive Vice President, Sales Director
Kurt joined American Trust in 1997 to manage the Retirement Division, a key area of the Financial Management Group (FMG). In 2016, Kurt assumed responsibility for FMG, which is comprised of investment management, fiduciary and investment trust services, brokerage services, and retirement functions. As Sales Director, Kurt is responsible for setting sales goals, and advising and establishing training programs for the division’s relationship managers in the investment trust division.
In addition, Kurt is responsible for the development and retention of all sales in FMG, including investments and its administration, while pursuing the objectives of profit and quality service to customers. Today, FMG has over $2.39 billion in assets under management and leads more than 110 professionals. Kurt is also a member of the bank’s executive management team and is instrumental in strategic planning for the Financial Management Group and for the bank.
Kurt graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance. He was awarded the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation by the Wharton School of Business and received the Retirement Plan Specialist designation in 2001.
Brian S. McCleary
Investment Officer, Investment Trust Relationship Manager
As Investment Officer and Investment Trust Relationship Manager, Brian works with high net worth individuals to develop financial plans and investment strategies. He has his Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses and is life insurance licensed. Brian graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Marketing. He joined the industry in 2000 and started at American Trust in 2009. He has spent 16 years in the retirement industry, including 401(k) and pension experience, as well as retirement and investment planning experience.
Investment Trust Relationship Manager
As Investment Trust Relationship Manager, Aaron is responsible for managing accounts while helping clients define and implement investment strategies to meet their long term goals. Previously, Aaron was a retirement professional at the Bettendorf location. A graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, Aaron received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance and he holds the Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses and Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin life and health insurance licenses.
Investment Trust Relationship Manager
As Investment Trust Relationship Manager, Nate is responsible for managing accounts while helping clients define and implement investment strategies to meet their long term goals. He has an office at the Main Street and Asbury Road locations. Nate graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Platteville, Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Finance. Nate holds the FINRA Series 6, 7, 63, and 65 securities registrations and Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin life insurance and long term care licenses. Nate obtained the Certified Retirement Counselor designation in 2015.

Cathleen M. Colgan
Managing Director, Vice President
As Managing Director and Vice President of American Trust California, Cathleen is responsible for the management of the West Coast division of American Trust. She oversees trust administration, managed recordkeeping of assets, estate planning review for personal and business plans, financial management advice, bill-paying services, and estate administration during the probate process.
Cathleen joined American Trust California in 2004 and has more than 30 years of trust experience in the Bay Area. She has completed the Certified Financial Planning Program from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado, Trust Administration Levels I, II, and III at Cannon Financial Institute, Legal Assistant Studies at San Jose State, and numerous California Continuing Education of the Bar programs. Cathy serves on the Board Councils for Peninsula Estate Planning, Silicon Valley Planned Giving, Foothill De-Anza Planned Giving, El Camino Hospital Planned Giving, and on the Santa Clara University Law School Committee for the Jerry Kasner Estate Planning Symposium. She is a member of the Financial Planning Forum and served 13 years on the Board of the Palo Alto Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
