Robert J. Donovan, CTFA
Senior Executive Vice President
Bob is planning to retire from American Trust in 2017 after 48 years of service. He is working in tandem with Kurt Wedewer, Senior Executive Vice President, Assistant Manager for the Financial Management Group, until his retirement. Bob joined the bank in 1969 as a part-time coin-wrapper. His first full-time position at the bank was as a teller at the Kennedy Road Office and he joined the bank’s Trust Division in 1975. Over the years, Bob’s expertise grew and his responsibilities continued to expand, and in 1979 he was promoted to Trust Officer. Bob graduated with distinction from the American Bankers Association National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University, and was designated as a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor and a Certified Financial Services Counselor. In 1987, Bob was named Board President for the Iowa Trust Association.
In 2000, Bob assumed responsibility for the Financial Management Group, comprised of investments, personal trust, and employee benefits functions. In 2010, Bob was promoted to Senior Executive Vice President as the division achieved record results and made significant enhancements in recordkeeping technology.
Bob has served as the President of the Board of Directors for Thunder Hills Country Club, 330 Club, and Dubuque I Club; and Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Dubuque Boys Club Boosters, Dubuque Golf & Country Club, Thunder Hills Country Club, and Dubuque Area Latchkey Kids. Bob also served on the Strategic Planning Committee for the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, and on the Formation Committee for The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque.
Kurt Wedewer, CEBS
Senior Executive Vice President
Kurt joined American Trust in 1997 to manage the Retirement Division, a key area of the Financial Management Group (FMG). He led American Trust Retirement to become one of the top retirement plan providers in the nation while receiving consistent recognition from PLANSPONSOR® magazine.
In 2016, Kurt assumed responsibility for FMG, which is comprised of investment management, wealth management, and retirement functions. He is responsible for the development and retention of those areas, including investments and its administration, while pursuing the objectives of profit and quality service to customers. Today, FMG has over $2.39 billion in assets under management and leads more than 110 professionals. Kurt is also a member of the bank’s executive management team and is instrumental in strategic planning for the Financial Management Group and for the bank.
Kurt graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance. He was awarded the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation by the Wharton School of Business and received the Retirement Plan Specialist designation in 2001.
Senior Vice President, Retirement Division
As one of the fastest growing areas in the bank, Bryte is responsible for overseeing the Retirement Division, including sales, service, and continued development of the retirement solution. Delivered in partnership with financial advisors, he is charged with growing relationships with broker dealers, banks, and registered investment advisory firms. Today, American Trust Retirement is recognized as a top retirement plan provider in the nation and has received recognition from PLANSPONSOR magazine.
Ryan graduated from Simpson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and has a Master of Arts degree in Business Administration from Clarke University in Dubuque. He has over 12 years of experience in the retirement industry, and has held the Series 7 and Series 63 securities licenses.
Chris M. Even, JD, CFP, CTFA
Senior Vice President, Fiduciary In-House Counsel
Chris joined American Trust in 1994. Prior to joining the bank, she was a practicing attorney in Southwest Wisconsin. She is a Certified Financial Planner Licensee and a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor. Chris holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law, Lincoln, Nebraska, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State College, Denver, Colorado. Active in her field and the Tri-state area. Chris is on the executive board of the Dubuque County Bar Association and the Probate & Trust Section of the Iowa State Bar Association. And is a past board member of the Iowa Trust Association.
She is an active volunteer for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, and the Dubuque Community School District. She routinely speaks on “money matters” to various student groups throughout the community.
Second Senior Vice President
Patti began her career in the trust industry in 1977. She earned her CSOP designation in 1995 and joined American Trust in 2002. As Second Senior Vice President , Patti manages the Trust Operations department. Her areas of responsibility include compliance, as well as day-to-day operations activities. She has successfully led her department through a variety of system changes and enhancements, and also introduced a new web-based product to her client base, allowing them to trade in an automated environment.
Patti has previously taught the ABA classes Trust Basics and Trust Operations. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, holding several officer positions including President from 2012 to 2014. She served on the Saint Mark Community Center Board as Governance Chair and the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival board as Treasurer. Patti is currently involved in the United Way of the Dubuque Area Tri-States, serving on the Grant Application Review Committee, and is a driver for DuRide.
Vice President, Systems Development Manager
As Vice President and Systems Development Manager, Fred is responsible for the Financial Management Group’s systems development and technology needs. He graduated from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, with a degree in Mathematics. Fred has over 20 years of qualified retirement experience and spent over 13 years designing and developing technology to assist clients and retirement plan participants. He also serves as a message board moderator for the employee benefits website, “BenefitsLink” and is an active member of the Sungard Relius Administration User Group.
Vice President, Fiduciary and Investment Trust Manager
Pam joined American Trust in 2016 as Vice President and Fiduciary and Investment Trust Manager. She is responsible for overseeing the Fiduciary and Investment Trust department, as well as managing trust accounts. She has worked in the financial services industry, including trust and retirement services, investment management, and banking since 1989. Pam earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Upper Iowa University. She currently serves on the City of Dyersville Park and Recreation Board.
Second Vice President, Financial Control
Michelle graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation, she began working in the retirement industry and gained a strong background in participant communication, disbursements, and tax reporting. She joined the American Trust Retirement Division’s Client Services team in 2007 and moved to Sales in 2008, where she quickly rose to Sales Supervisor. As the Retirement Division grew, a need for a team dedicated to managing the financials of the entire Financial Management Group developed. In 2015, Michelle became Second Vice President, Financial Control. She is responsible for reporting internal budgets, product line metrics, and net income of the Financial Management Group, coordinating client billing, advisor commission payments, and is involved in project management.
Michelle is a board member at Mt. Pleasant Home, a non-profit organization with deep roots in the Dubuque area that provides a retirement home for needy women and men.
